Potential impacts of genetic modification of mosquitoes in the control and prevention of malaria on individuals, the community and ecology
Few field studies have used Genetically Modified Mosquitoes to control malaria, leaving significant knowledge gaps about their effects. Local and global opposition to GMOs has hindered field trials, making impact assessments impossible. To move forward, national and local authorities, as well as host communities, must be engaged and approving. A comprehensive community engagement plan should be developed and discussed with stakeholders throughout the study's various stages.
