The findings demonstrate that deforestation and forest degradation lead to biodiversity loss which threatens numerous species, and disrupt important ecosystem functions, including transforming the Amazon into a net carbon source.
These environmental impacts directly undermine economic livelihoods and food security for forest-dependent communities, while exacerbating socio-cultural conflicts linked to governance failure and land tenure injustices. Furthermore, forest loss significantly increases public health risks through the heightened spread of vector-borne diseases and widespread exposure to harmful air pollution from forest fires.
