Digital Gender – inclusive tools for evidence use project

Digital Gender – inclusive tools for evidence use project

Duration: 2023 – 2025

ABOUT THE DG-Tool PROJECT

The two-year project aims to adapt and develop digital technologies (currently biased towards artificial intelligence) to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) processes using the Rapid Response Service (RRS) as a case. The project focuses on how these tools will enhance the efficiency of the different RRS processes from obtaining requests for evidence, through clarifying these queries, accessing, sorting, summarising and contextualising the evidence, packaging and disseminating evidence in a gender-sensitive and equitable way.

CURRENT SITUATION IN EIDM

The existing digital tools, while offering quick responses, are marred by potential risks such as outdated datasets, lack of precision, and the difficulty in assessing the quality of the generated outputs.  This can significantly undermine the effectiveness of policies and decisions that/which are informed by the evidence generated by these tools.

The project responds to the existing gaps in the RRS knowledge brokerage model and digital tools, providing a strategic pathway to design and pilot digital tools that not only address the challenges but also set a new standard for the prompt, autonomous, and evidence-informed support for decision-makers in the realm of Evidence-Informed Policy and Practice.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

We seek to develop (a) tool(s) to automate the different processes of the RRS to not only improve the timeliness of the Rapid Response Services (RRS) for Evidence-Informed Policy and Practice in Uganda but also ensure that the information is derived from reputable scholarly sources. The digital tool will not only improve the timeliness of evidence synthesis processes but also enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange and information sharing among evidence users and producers.
